Also known as The King of Beggars

Francis Bedlam, the King of Beggars, is one of the underworld bosses of Novigrad. He runs a network of thieves, beggars, tramps and street children across the whole city. His court lies in the hidden Putrid Grove. Geralt meets him during the quest Pyres of Novigrad.

Lore

The Free City of Novigrad has known no king for nearly two hundred years. Bedlam surely had this in mind when he crowned himself King of Beggars. The title mocks the pomp of real kings, and it also steals a little of that pomp for itself.

Bedlam is a practical man, and that serves him well in his trade. His contacts bring him the freshest gossip and the best scraps of information. He takes a cut of his "subjects'" earnings, and that pays for his court. Bedlam hates fanaticism and prejudice in equal measure. For that reason, mages fleeing the witch hunters often turn to him for protection.

Story

In Pyres of Novigrad, Geralt learns that Triss may have gone to the King of Beggars for help. Beggars and thieves lead him to the Putrid Grove. There Geralt finds Triss doing business with Bedlam.

In Get Junior, Bedlam is with the other bosses in Sigi Reuven's bathhouse when Whoreson Junior's men attack. In Whoreson's casino, Geralt finds a halfling named Rico, who works for Bedlam. If Geralt frees him, Rico promises a reward from his employer. In Honor Among Thieves, the King of Beggars keeps that promise and rewards Geralt well.

Relationships

Bedlam is one of the four leading underworld bosses of Novigrad. The other three are Sigi Reuven, Carlo Varese and Whoreson Junior. Triss Merigold does business with him.
