Golyat is a giant, one of the Ogroids, met at the Dulcinea Windmill in Toussaint. It is fought the moment the witcher arrives in the duchy, in The Beast of Toussaint. That level 35 main quest of the Blood and Wine expansion puts it in the late game.
Lore
A legend says Golyat was once a knight named Luis Alberni. Alberni served the old duke and was the greatest of all the duke's knights. Alberni's crest showed a golden star on a red field. Each of the star's five points stood for one of the knightly virtues.
Fame and glory went to the knight's head. Over the years Alberni came to believe there was no knight more perfect. In the end the knight set off to visit the Lady of the Lake, expecting her to pay homage to such excellence.
As Alberni neared her home, the knight's body began to change. The slim knight grew heavier and heavier until the horse could no longer carry the weight. The sword turned to wood, then into a mace. The shining armor dulled and crumbled to ash. Only the helmet was left, and it became a wooden cage.
At the shore of the lake, Alberni tried to speak, but only a wild cry came out. The Lady of the Lake rose from the water. She said Alberni had abandoned the knightly virtues long ago, and that pride was the greatest of those sins. From then on the knight would be known as Golyat. She sent the giant to live on Mount Gorgon, far from the eyes of men, until death set it free.
Behaviour
After the curse, Golyat fled into the mountains. Hunger drove the giant down into the lowlands. There it ate shepherds and sheep alike. It was so widely feared that governesses used its name to scare children into eating their vegetables.
Golyat looks like a wild, mindless beast, but it uses simple tools. Any object can become a deadly weapon in its huge hands. At the windmill it wields a millstone as a club, so every blow it lands is crushing.
Weaknesses
Coat the blade with Ogroid Oil and keep Quen up through the whole fight. Every hit from the millstone is heavy, and the shield absorbs the worst of it.
Golyat swings the millstone like a huge club. Dodge to the side of each swing, then circle around and strike while the giant recovers. Three knights fight alongside the witcher in this battle.
Golyat Map Location and Quest Guide
- Finish Envoys, Wineboys to ride into Toussaint with Milton and Palmerin.
- Watch Guillaume charge the Dulcinea Windmill until Golyat steps out from behind it.
- Defeat the giant together with the three knights.
- Loot Golyat's body for the trophy.
- Follow Milton to the place where the body was found to carry on with the quest.

Golyat is fought at the very start of The Beast of Toussaint, the main quest that follows Envoys, Wineboys. The witcher rides along the high road with the knights Milton de Peyrac-Peyran and Palmerin de Launfal. A third knight, Guillaume de Launfal, charges headlong at a windmill. A moment later the giant strides out from behind the mill and charges back.
The witcher and all three knights fight the brute among the ruins of the mill and a herd of panicking sheep. Once Golyat falls, the knights and the witcher talk over how to go on. The quest then turns to the hunt for the Beast of Toussaint. The Golyat Trophy is one of the quest's rewards.
