Gearhead makes V's cars tougher and their guns better. Vehicle health goes up by a third, mounted weapons hit harder, and they lock on faster. It is an early pick in the Technical Ability tree and the only one in it about driving. Anyone who takes an armed car into a job will notice all three.
Effect
The health increase is the part that matters most often. A car that survives a third more damage survives the gunfire of a chase instead of being abandoned halfway through it.
The weapon changes are for the vehicles that carry guns. More damage and a shorter lock-on mean the mounted weapon can actually finish a pursuing car rather than harassing it.
How to Unlock Gearhead
It sits behind the Rookie gate of the Technical Ability tree and needs nothing bought ahead of it.
Character Builds
It belongs to any build that drives into its jobs, and particularly to one carrying an armed vehicle from the Autofixer netpage or a job reward.
Buy it at the Rookie gate whenever a point is spare, since nothing in the tree is bought from it. Stuntjock in the Reflexes tree and Road Warrior in the Cool tree are the other two vehicle perks, and a build that wants to fight from a car takes all three.
Notes
Stuntjock in the Reflexes tree improves shooting from a vehicle by hand, and Fury Road in the Body tree turns the car into a battering ram, so the three cover vehicle combat between them.
Armed vehicles are sold through the Autofixer netpage, and several come from jobs.
