Inclinations

An inclination shapes how a pawn behaves, from the way it speaks to what it does in battle and on the road. The inclinations are Kindhearted, Calm, Simple and Straightforward. The Arisen picks one for the main pawn at creation and can change it later with Rift Incense.

Kindhearted

Kindhearted pawns stay close to the Arisen and put support first. In battle they hold enemies down, cast helpful enchantments and hurry to aid allies in trouble. A Mage suits this inclination well, since healing and enchantments are its strengths.

Calm

Calm pawns are careful tacticians who put survival first, favouring defence and evasion. They also clear unneeded items from their packs on their own. Thief pawns are a common match for this inclination.

Simple

Simple pawns are curious explorers. They gather items, study their surroundings and often hand their finds over to their companions.

Straightforward

Straightforward pawns are bold fighters who spot enemies from afar and rush into battle, even against huge monsters. Fighters and Warriors suit this inclination.

Rift Incense

Rift Incense changes the main pawn's inclination along with its voice. It works only on the main pawn, and only at camp. Kindhearted Rift Incense, Calm Rift Incense, Simple Rift Incense and Straightforward Rift Incense each set the inclination in their name. Ambivalent Rift Incense swaps the pawn to a different inclination rather than a chosen one, and it costs less than the others. Neomith sells every kind at the Vernworth Pawn Guild in exchange for rift crystals. Calm Rift Incense can also be stolen from Ambrosius.

Themed Riftstones

Some riftstones out in the wild summon only pawns of a single inclination, such as the Riftstone of the Kindhearted and the Riftstone of the Calm.
