Stonedigger Troll is a dungeon boss in Elden Ring.

The Stonedigger Troll is a towering troll with stony flesh who swings a great stone hammer. One guards the bottom of the Limgrave Tunnels, and a stronger one waits at the end of the Old Altus Tunnel. Its blows cover a wide area and send out shockwaves. It falls over easily, and a single Sleep Pot puts it out of the fight for a while.

Lore

The troll is a giant humanoid with skin like rock and a hole in its chest, the mark of every troll. Old wounds scar its head. It swings a stone hammer that it uses as a mining tool to crack bedrock.

Trolls descend from the giants. Their hammers were once ceremonial smithing tools, from a distant age when smithing was thought divine.

The same kind of hammer is still carried by War Counselor Iji, who serves the Carian royals.

Where to find Stonedigger Troll Location?

  • Old Altus Tunnel, Altus Plateau, in a cavern full of explosive barrels at the end of the tunnel

Weak To Strike, Magic, Holy, Sleep
Resists Standard, Slash, Pierce
Immune Madness

Attacks

  • Stomp: it raises a leg and stomps, repeating while a foe stays close; roll toward the other leg and strike.
  • Hammer Swing: a sweep along the ground or a chop in front; roll into a sweep and away from a chop.
  • Arm Sweep: it drags its free arm along the ground; roll toward the arm.
  • Column Slam: it drives the hammer head first into the ground with a shockwave; roll toward its legs.
  • Kneeling Swing: it kneels and swings the hammer in a wide arc with extra reach; roll toward the hammer.
  • Mega Slam: both hands lift the hammer high and long before a huge shockwave; run away or jump over the wave.
  • Overhead Combo: a furious string of hammer slams ending in a colossal blow; stay near its legs and roll the final shockwave.
  • Roar: a shockwave roar that also raises its damage for a short time; move away or roll through the wave.

Tactics

  1. Bring a Sleep Pot; one throw puts the troll to sleep and opens it to free hits.
  2. Two-hand the weapon or use a heavy weapon, because light one-handed hits bounce off its hard skin.
  3. Stay near its feet and ideally behind them, where most follow ups miss.
  4. Hit its legs until it collapses, then land a critical hit on its head.
  5. Run from the Mega Slam and jump over the shockwave.
  6. Summon a sturdy Spirit Ash to hold its attention.

Best Builds

Sleep and heavy strikes

The troll is extremely vulnerable to sleep, and strike damage gets through its stony hide.

Gear Sleep Pot

Stance breaking with charged attacks

Its stance is low, so a few charged or jumping heavy attacks knock it down for a critical hit.

Sorcery with Spirit Ash support

Magic deals full damage, and a summon keeps the troll away while spells land.

Gear Kaiden Sellsword Ashes, Noble Sorcerer Ashes

Summons

Spirit Ashes allowed

Drops

Defeating it grants 1,800 runes.

Notes

  • The Limgrave Tunnels troll drops the Roar Medallion.
  • The Old Altus Tunnel troll gives 9,600 runes and the Great Club, and it can hurl fireballs that set off the barrels around it.
  • The hidden way to the Limgrave troll opens by leaving the second lift before it reaches the bottom.
