Elden Ring - Spirit Ashes

Spirit Ashes are items that call computer-controlled spirits into battle to fight beside the summoner. A well-chosen spirit draws enemy attacks, adds damage or heals, which makes hard bosses far more manageable.

How They Work

Summoning needs the Spirit Calling Bell, a key item. Renna hands over the bell at the Church of Elleh at night, after Melina grants the Spectral Steed Whistle. Renna gives the Lone Wolf Ashes at the same time. If Renna stops appearing, the Twin Maiden Husks at the Roundtable Hold sell the bell instead.

Spirits can only be summoned near a Rebirth Monument, a small stone obelisk. Rebirth Monuments stand in nearly every boss arena and at many points of interest. A monument icon appears on the left side of the screen when summoning is possible. Only one spirit ash can be active at a time.

Spirit ashes cannot be used during multiplayer. Most spirit ashes cost FP to summon, and a few cost HP instead.

Upgrading

Roderika is the only character who upgrades spirit ashes. She first appears at Stormhill Shack in Stormhill. Giving her the Chrysalids' Memento from Stormveil Castle sends her to the Roundtable Hold. She also moves there on her own once a Site of Grace in Liurnia of the Lakes is reached.

At the Roundtable Hold, her dialogue and that of Smithing Master Hewg must be exhausted in turn. After the area reloads, Roderika sits across from Hewg and offers Spirit Tuning. Standard spirit ashes upgrade with Grave Glovewort. Renowned spirit ashes, the named heroes and puppets, upgrade with Ghost Glovewort.

Each glovewort tier matches one level, and a Great Glovewort takes a spirit to +10. Each upgrade raises the spirit's attack power and defenses. Picker's Bell Bearings let the Twin Maiden Husks sell gloveworts of tiers 1 to 9 without limit. Great Gloveworts cannot be bought and are limited in each playthrough.

In the Realm of Shadow, Revered Spirit Ash raises a separate blessing up to level 10. That blessing boosts the damage and damage negation of summoned spirits and Torrent. The Revered Spirit Ash blessing has no effect outside the Realm of Shadow.

Glovewort Spots

Grave Glovewort grows in catacombs and hero's graves across the Lands Between. Ghost Glovewort grows in the underground regions of Siofra River, Ainsel River and Deeproot Depths. Nokron, Eternal City and Nokstella, Eternal City hold many Ghost Gloveworts. Higher tiers of Ghost Glovewort grow in Uhl Palace Ruins, Elphael, Brace of the Haligtree and Mohgwyn Palace.

A Great Ghost Glovewort lies in the Mohgwyn Dynasty Mausoleum. Great Grave Glovewort turns up in Crumbling Farum Azula, Consecrated Snowfield Catacombs and Giant-Conquering Hero's Grave. In the Realm of Shadow, Scorpion River Catacombs and Fog Rift Catacombs hold Great Ghost Gloveworts. The Cerulean Coast holds several Great Grave Gloveworts.

Summoner Gear

Revered Spirit Ash is the main way to strengthen every spirit in the Realm of Shadow. Heal from Afar fires a healing orb that restores HP to distant allies, including summoned spirits. Heal from Afar suits fragile tanks such as Taylew the Golem Smith. Mimic Tear Ashes copy the summoner's equipment, including spells and consumable items.
