Elden Ring - Quests

Questlines follow the people met across the Lands Between and the Realm of Shadow, from first meeting to final fate. Many of them cross each other, and some unlock other endings, so the order of events matters.

How Questlines Work

A questline moves forward when its character's dialogue is exhausted and a boss, area or item is reached. Characters often move to a new spot after a rest or a reload of the area. Some steps happen through summon signs or red invasion signs rather than conversation. Attacking a friendly character turns them hostile until absolution is sought at the Church of Vows.

Roundtable Hold

Many questlines begin or pass through the Roundtable Hold. Roderika becomes a spirit tuner beside Smithing Master Hewg there. Fia, Rogier and D share a story about the Night of Black Knives. The Dung Eater appears there once the Altus Plateau is reached.

Gideon Ofnir trades knowledge of hidden demigods for spells and a cookbook.

Endings

Ranni's questline leads to the Age of the Stars. Fia's questline leads to the Age of the Duskborn. Brother Corhyn and Goldmask lead to the Age of Order. The Dung Eater's questline leads to the Blessing of Despair.

Hyetta's path to the Three Fingers leads to the Lord of Frenzied Flame, which only Miquella's Needle can undo.

Volcano Manor

Rya's necklace earns an invitation to Volcano Manor on Mt. Gelmir. Lady Tanith's Recusants hunt other Tarnished through red invasion signs. Patches, Knight Bernahl and Diallos each have their own part to play in the manor. Defeating Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy, locks every manor step that is still open.

Realm of Shadow

Needle Knight Leda invites the Tarnished into the Realm of Shadow from Miquella's cocoon. Leda, Hornsent, Sir Ansbach, Redmane Freyja, Moore, Thiollier and Dryleaf Dane all follow Miquella's crosses. Approaching the Shadow Keep breaks Miquella's charm and moves all of their stories forward. Burning the Sealing Tree ends the open steps and leads to a battle with Leda's band in Enir-Ilim.

Count Ymir, Jolán and Fire Knight Queelign share a choice between the Iris of Grace and the Iris of Occultation.

Common Lockouts

Killing a quest character usually ends their questline at once. Defeating a major boss early can skip or lock steps, as Rykard and Maliketh do for several characters. Some questlines need items from others, such as the Carian Inverted Statue from Ranni for Fia. Only one side of a choice can be taken in a single playthrough.
