Elden Ring - Gestures

Gestures are short body animations used to express feelings to other players. Some are known from the start, and the rest are taught by characters, found on corpses or earned through quests. A few open secret paths or calm a hostile character.

Using gestures

Gestures are chosen from the gesture menu inside the main menu. Favorite gestures can be placed in gesture slots for quick use. On controllers with motion sensors, a held button and a flick of the controller performs the gesture in a matching slot. Most gestures hold the character in place until the motion ends.

Wave lets the character keep walking, and The Ring can be held until the next action. Wave and Casual Greeting both include a spoken "Hey!".

Starting gestures

Every new character begins with a basic set of gestures. This set holds Point Forwards, Point Upwards, Point Downwards, Wait! and Wave. It also holds Beckon, Warm Welcome, Jump for Joy, Rallying Cry, Bow, Rest and Dejection. These cover pointing, greeting, cheering and resting.

All other gestures must be earned in the world.

Gesture puzzles

Some statues and characters react to a gesture. Erudition opens the sealed top of the Converted Tower. Erudition also opens the Converted Fringe Tower, but only while a Glintstone Crown is worn. Finger Snap calls Blaidd the Half-Wolf down from the rocks at Mistwood Ruins.

Grovel for Mercy and Extreme Repentance turn an angry Patches friendly again. Messages near these spots often hint at the gesture needed.

Quest gestures

Many gestures are rewards from characters as their stories move forward. Sorceress Sellen, Thops, Boc the Seamster and Roderika each give one. Patches alone teaches several over his long story. Goldmask gives Golden Order Totality once the secret of Radagon is solved.

Killing a character or moving past a story point can lose their gesture for the rest of the playthrough.

Realm of Shadow

The Realm of Shadow adds new gestures of its own. O Mother sits by a headless statue north of Bonny Village. Performing O Mother before the Marika statue beside the Shadow Keep, Back Gate opens the way to the Hinterland. May the Best Win lies at the Highroad Cross Site of Grace with a note from Dryleaf Dane.

Performing May the Best Win beside Dryleaf Dane challenges him to a duel. Let Us Go Together comes from the final boss of the Realm of Shadow.
