The Altus Plateau is a high, golden land in the north-west of the Lands Between. The Erdtree towers over it, and Leyndell, the royal capital, stands at its eastern edge. Golden trees and fields of flowers cover the plateau, though old battlefields scar it everywhere. The volcano of Mt. Gelmir rises in the west. Most runs climb onto the plateau after Liurnia, on the way to the capital.

Lore
Altus was once rich with the bounty of the Erdtree. Most of its plants are touched with the tree's gold, and its flowers are prized by perfumers. The people of the plateau believed that those born at the foot of the Erdtree were blessed. Leyndell, the capital of Queen Marika, was built here, and the Elden Lords ruled from its throne.
The Shattering brought war to the plateau. Battlefields and soldiers' camps still dot the land. The forces of the capital marched west against Praetor Rykard on Mt. Gelmir, and their camps line the slopes of the volcano. Morgott, the Veiled Monarch, now guards the capital and its Erdtree.
The north of the plateau holds the Shaded Castle, the old seat of House Marais. Its lords were the castle's executioners and castellans for generations. Elemer of the Briar seized the castle and brought the house to ruin. The Windmill Village of Dominula holds a darker secret. Its dancing villagers flay people for their skins in a grim festival.
Geography
The plateau sits high above Liurnia and is reached mainly by lifts. The Grand Lift of Dectus rises from the Bellum Highway, and it needs both halves of the Dectus Medallion. The Ruin-Strewn Precipice offers a harder climb through the cliffs, past Magma Wyrm Makar. Both routes arrive in the south-west, near the Lux Ruins and the Golden Lineage Evergaol.
The western plateau holds the Wyndham Ruins and the Wyndham Catacombs at the foot of Mt. Gelmir. The Perfumer's Ruins and the Unsightly Catacombs lie to the north-west, and the Sage's Cave hides behind a waterfall. The middle of the plateau holds the Second Church of Marika, the Stormcaller Church and the Sainted Hero's Grave. The Writheblood Ruins lie farther north.
A misty wood in the north surrounds the Minor Erdtree (Altus Plateau), with the Woodfolk Ruins beside it. The Mirage Rise appears and vanishes in a valley to the south-west, and the Altus Tunnel lies south of the tree. The far north holds Dominula and the windmill pastures. The Shaded Castle stands in the valley between the plateau and the volcano.
The Capital Outskirts form the eastern edge, inside the outer wall of Leyndell. They hold the Auriza Hero's Grave, the Auriza Side Tomb, the Perfumer's Grotto and the Hermit Merchant's Shack. The Sealed Tunnel in the south-east leads to the Divine Tower of West Altus. A Draconic Tree Sentinel guards the gate to the capital. Beyond the capital, the Forbidden Lands lead to the Grand Lift of Rold and the Mountaintops of the Giants.
Bosses
The Draconic Tree Sentinel guards the capital gate, and the Fell Twins wait on the way to the Divine Tower of East Altus. The Tree Sentinel duo, the Ancient Dragon Lansseax and a Wormface roam the open land. Elemer of the Briar waits in the Shaded Castle, and a Godskin Apostle tops the hill of Dominula. Godefroy the Grafted is held in the Golden Lineage Evergaol. The dungeons hold Crucible Knight Ordovis, the Ancient Hero of Zamor, the Black Knife Assassin, Necromancer Garris, the Grave Warden Duelist, Perfumer Tricia, an Omenkiller with Miranda the Blighted Bloom, Crystalians, the Stonedigger Troll and the Onyx Lord.
