Leonida is the fictional American state where Grand Theft Auto VI takes place. It is modelled on Florida and carries the nickname the Goodtime State. Vice City is its main city, but the state stretches far beyond the city limits. When the sun fades and the neon glows, everyone in Leonida has something to gain. Everyone also has more to lose.

Leonida is the darkest side of the sunniest place in America. Its regions are Vice City, the Leonida Keys, the Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga National Park. Each region has a look and a way of life of its own. Each one also stands for a different side of Florida. The state is about twice the size of the map in Grand Theft Auto V. It is also denser, more detailed and more interactive than that map.

Vice City brings neon streets, crowded beaches and busy nightlife. The Leonida Keys form a chain of tropical islands with casual bars and dangerous waters. The Grassrivers are swampy wetlands full of gators, mangroves and airboats. Port Gellhorn is a faded holiday town on the forgotten coast of the state. Ambrosia is an industrial area built around a large sugar refinery. Mount Kalaga National Park covers the forests, rivers and canyons of the far north. The park also marks the northern border of the state.

Smaller places fill the land between the regions. Watson Bay is a waterside town on the edge of the Grassrivers. Paradise Garage in Watson Bay offers a weapon locker and a safe place for stolen goods. Lake Leonida is home to One-Eyed Willie's, a mod shop for off-road vehicles. Stockyard holds Stock 305, a streetwear store, and Electric Fang Tattoo, its best-known ink bar. Boats dock at Washington Beach, and Gambit Bay is a good spot for casting a line. Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos also spend time in Bayside, another part of the state. The Leonida Penitentiary is the state prison that holds its inmates.

Wildlife is everywhere, with alligators in the swamps and deer and cougars in the north. Flamingos fly low over the water, and dolphins swim off the coast. Divers in the Keys find coral, eels, fish and sea turtles beneath the surface. Hunters work the Grassrivers and the northern woods with rifles.

Local culture runs through every part of the state. Macca the Gator is the star of a hit Leonida TV show. Radio stations broadcast across the whole of Leonida. Flash FM is a Vice City institution for pop music. Back Country Radio sends renegade country music out to the Grassrivers and Port Gellhorn. Cocoteo FM is the home of modern Latin music in Leonida. The Chamber 106.6 channels the deep metal roots of the state. Social media is part of daily life, and locals film and livestream whatever happens around them.

Characters

Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos are drawn into a criminal conspiracy that stretches across Leonida. Lucia once served time in the Leonida Penitentiary for fighting for her family. Her mother has dreamed of the good life since their days in Liberty City. Jason lives in the Keys, in a home owned by the smuggler Brian Heder. Boobie Ike is a local legend in Vice City. Wyman is an eccentric collector and local fixer. He wants abandoned classic cars from around the state tracked down and restored.

The Leonida Penitentiary is the state prison of Leonida. Inmates wear orange jumpsuits and walk the corridors in handcuffs. Officers escort them past the glass windows of the prison. Lucia Caminos landed in the Leonida Penitentiary after fighting for her family. Sheer luck got her out. She left the prison determined to make only smart moves from then on.
