Rag Tunic is the first chest piece a fresh workbench can make, and you wear it until something with real hide in it comes along. The scraps for it drop from boars in the Meadows. It gives 1 armour, and worn with the rest of the Rag Armor set it makes up a 2 armour rating, which turns a 100-damage hit into 98.

How to Craft

You craft it at a level 1 workbench with this recipe:

  • 5x Leather Scraps: dropped by boars and bats, and dug out of muddy scrap piles.

Leather Scraps Leather Scraps Meadows - spawn LeatherScraps

When to Use It

This is gear for the first hours of the game. Everything it needs comes from the Meadows, so you can make it the moment your character stands up.

Upgrades

You can upgrade it once after crafting, and the upgrade needs the station built one step higher, for +1 armour. The other figures on this page are for quality 1, so this table shows where your own copy sits on the ladder:

Quality Crafting Station Armor Durability Resources
1 Workbench (Level 1) 1 200

5x Leather scraps

2 Workbench (Level 2) 2 250

Notes

  • The movement speed penalties of chest and leg armor add up, so a full heavy set is 10% slower even before a shield is drawn.
  • Armor reduces physical, fire, frost and lightning damage, but it does nothing against poison or spirit damage.
  • Every craftable armor piece except Rag Armor gains 2 armor with each upgrade.
