Chest Armor

The heaviest slot and the one that pays for it: 38 chest pieces, 1 to 38 armour, and every heavy breastplate costs 5% of your movement speed. It is also where the 2 mage robes put their Eitr regeneration, at +40% and +50% the largest single bonus on any piece of armour.

Protection

Pros

• The same armour figure as the helmet of its set, so half of a set's protection is decided here: 38 on a Flametal Breastplate, 32 on a Carapace Breastplate.
• The biggest eitr bonuses in the game. Eitr-weave Robe gives +40% and Robes of Embla +50% Eitr regeneration, twice what the matching hood manages.
• It is where the damage-type resistances live: Root Harnesk halves pierce, Wolf Hide Chestpiece halves frost, and Flametal Breastplate adds 20% heat resistance for the Ashlands.

Cons

• Every heavy chest piece costs 5% movement speed, and the matching greaves cost another 5%, which is the whole 10% a heavy set is known for.
• It is the heaviest armour you carry: 15.0 for an Iron Scale Mail against 3.0 for the helmet of the same set.
• Root Harnesk buys its pierce resistance with a 1.5x fire weakness, which is a bad trade in any biome that burns.
• 22 of the 38 are Hildir's dresses and tunics: 1 armour, no ladder, no effect.

Builds

Heavy if you block, light if you dodge, robes if you cast. The 5% movement penalty is the price of the top armour figure, and it stacks with the greaves for a full 10%; a light chest piece gives that back and hands you a set bonus instead.

The Fenris Coat is the exception that proves the rule: +3% movement rather than -5%, frost resistance, and a set bonus, for 6 fewer armour than the Wolf Hide Chestpiece of the same biome.

There are 38 in the slot: 22 at Hildir, then 6 at Workbench, then 5 at Forge, then 3 at Black forge, then 2 at Galdr table.

Notes

• Movement penalties from the chest and leg pieces add together, so a full heavy set is -10% before a shield is drawn.
• Armour reduces damage from physical, fire, frost and lightning. Poison and spirit are not reduced by it at all.
• Every craftable piece gains +2 armour per upgrade level, except Rag Armor.
• Upgrading an equipped piece unequips it.
