Trinkets

Crystal Heart

A trinket is not armour and reduces no damage. Instead it fills an Adrenaline bar as you fight and then spends it on an effect, which makes it the only slot that rewards staying in the fight rather than surviving it.

Effects

Pros

  • They cost nothing to use. Fighting generates Adrenaline rather than spending it from a pool, so the effect is free once the bar fills.
  • The effects are large: +20 to a weapon skill on the Wolf Sight, 100 health and 100 stamina at once on Brimstone, and 20 armour for 30 seconds on the Iron Brooch.
  • Unequipping does not cancel an active effect. If you switch trinkets mid-fight and trigger each in turn, their effects stack, and that is the one real trick in the system.
  • Most trinkets come out of a level 1 Forge, so the system opens in the Black Forest and keeps pace from there.

Cons

  • No armour at all. The slot is a fourth damage source or a fourth defence, never both, and it adds nothing to your armour rating.
  • The trigger is automatic. A trinket fires when the bar fills rather than when you want it, and triggering the same one again only resets its timer.
  • After a few seconds without a fight, Adrenaline decays at up to 4 a second, so you cannot bank it before a boss.
  • You can equip only one, and the cheapest effect still asks for 10 adrenaline while the dearest asks for 100.

Builds

Choose the trinket for the fight, not the tier. Adrenaline cost and duration matter more than when the trinket unlocked: Fins of Destiny fires at 10 adrenaline and lasts 120 seconds, while Brimstone wants 100.

The switching trick is the build. Trigger one, swap, trigger the next, and both effects run at once for as long as their durations overlap.

Trinkets are made at the Forge and the Black forge.

Best Trinkets

Build Name Image Stats
Cheapest to trigger Fins of Destiny Fins of Destiny 10 adrenaline
Longest effect Evasion Mantle Evasion Mantle 120 seconds
Dearest to trigger Brimstone Brimstone 100 adrenaline

Notes

  • Adrenaline only builds up while a trinket is equipped. Taking the trinket off stops the build-up but keeps the adrenaline already gained.
  • The equipped trinket decides how much adrenaline the bar can hold.
  • The adrenaline bar starts to drain 6 to 10 seconds after it last went up, and it drains faster the fuller it is.
  • Trinkets up to the Mistlands are made at a level 1 Forge, and later ones need a level 1 Black Forge.
