Not much gets built in Valheim until a Workbench is standing, which is why ten Wood is the first recipe most players ever use. It is the founding crafting station of the whole game. Inside the ring of ground around it, you can place every plain timber wall, floor, beam and roof.
How to Build It
It costs ten Wood and nothing else. It is the one station that needs no station of its own, so you can put it down anywhere the ground is flat enough to take it. The catch is shelter. It will happily let you build inside its radius out in the open, but it refuses to craft or repair anything until it has a roof above it and enough cover around it to count as indoors. Its 200 durability also drains in the rain while it stands uncovered, so the roof pays for itself twice over.
