Gran is an old woman who cares for war orphans in Crookback Bog, in Velen. The children of the swamp gave her that name. She is a servant of the Crones, and she is in truth Anna Strenger, the Bloody Baron's missing wife. Geralt meets her during the quest Ladies of the Wood.
Story
War leaves many people broken, so Geralt is not shocked by the state of the woman the orphans call Gran. She seems to suffer from many ills. Still, she cares for the children in her charge with love and devotion.
Gran has strange marks on her hands that burn with living fire. The marks show that she is bound in service to the Crones. How she fell into their power stays a mystery. When Geralt sees the marks, he realizes that she must be the Bloody Baron's wife. Hardship has changed her beyond recognition.
Gran does not trust Geralt at first, and his first attempts to talk to her come to nothing. Johnny the godling helps him break through. A few words from Johnny convince Gran to help Geralt speak with the Ladies of the Wood.
Relationships
The Crones hold Gran as their servant. Johnny is her friend, and he later speaks up for her before the Crones. Phillip Strenger, the Bloody Baron, is her husband, and Tamara is their daughter.
