Johnny is a godling who lives in the swamps of Crookback Bog, in Velen. Godlings are a rare breed of creature found in the wild places of the Continent. Geralt meets him during the quest Ladies of the Wood, and Johnny helps him reach the Crones.
Story
The orphans in the swamp clearing tell Geralt about Johnny. At first the witcher has good reason to doubt him. Nobody, it seems, could live long in a swamp full of drowners and water hags. Geralt suspects that Johnny is an imaginary friend of lonely children. Years of experience tell him to check every lead, so he searches the swamp anyway.
The orphans are telling the truth. Johnny is real, but he is a godling, not a human child. He has lost his voice and cannot answer Geralt's questions. Johnny leads Geralt to a harpy nest on a cliff. A sealed bottle in the nest holds his voice. Once Geralt gives the bottle back, Johnny talks without stopping. He says that he saw Ciri, and he agrees to persuade Gran to put Geralt in touch with the Ladies of the Wood.
Johnny later tries to speak up for Gran before the Crones. He only draws their anger on himself. In Return to Crookback Bog, Geralt finds Johnny hiding near his burrow. Johnny explains how the Crones punished Gran, and he points the way to their cellar.
Johnny meets Geralt and Ciri once more at the Crones' sabbath on Bald Mountain. The Crones have made him an offer he could not refuse, and he must attend. If Geralt chased the godling Sara from the haunted house in Novigrad, Sara is with Johnny there. Johnny plans to leave at the first chance. Before he goes, he tells Geralt and Ciri how to reach the peak of the mountain, where Imlerith is holding the dark feast.
Relationships
Gran is Johnny's friend, and he tries to protect her from the Crones. Sara is another godling, and the two can become friends.
