Anna Strenger is the wife of Phillip Strenger, the Bloody Baron of Crow's Perch in Velen. She is also the mother of Tamara. Anna vanished with her daughter shortly before Geralt reached Crow's Perch. Her trail leads him into Crookback Bog during the quests Family Matters and Ladies of the Wood.
Lore
Anna is a handsome woman in her forties. She has green eyes and raven-black hair, tied in a tight bun. Her marriage to the Baron was unhappy. While he was away on campaigns, she found comfort with a childhood friend. When the Baron learned of it, he killed her lover in a fit of rage.
The Baron drank and beat her. When Anna fell pregnant again, she wanted to be free of him and of the child he had given her. She made a pact with the Crones of Crookback Bog to be rid of the unborn baby. The Crones granted her wish in their own twisted way. Their curse made the child wither inside her, and it drained Anna's life as well. In despair she turned to the Pellar. He made her a talisman to hold back the evil magic.
Story
Anna miscarried after a drunken beating from the Baron. She then fled Crow's Perch with Tamara. During the fight she lost the Pellar's talisman. Without it, she had no defense against the Crones. The marks of the pact on her palms began to burn. A fiend seized her on the way and dragged her into the heart of Crookback Bog.
In the swamp Anna pays off her debt as a slave of the Crones. She cares for the orphans there as an old woman the children call Gran. Geralt meets Gran while following Ciri's trail and later realises she is Anna.
Anna's fate depends on the choice made at the Whispering Hillock. If the spirit in the tree was killed, or freed before the Crones asked for its death, Anna is found alive. Her mind, however, has cracked under all she went through. If the spirit was freed after the Crones gave that task, the Crones curse Anna and turn her into a monster. Geralt tries to lift the curse by picking the right doll from the Crones' altar. If he succeeds, Anna regains her true form, but the Crones' last spell kills her soon after. She has time only for a short farewell to her family. If he fails, the Crones' vengeance burns her alive.
Relationships
Phillip Strenger is Anna's husband. She hated him for his drinking and his violence. Tamara is their daughter. She shared her mother's wish to escape the Baron, and the two women fled together.
