Return to Crookback Bog is a secondary quest in Velen, and the last chapter of the Bloody Baron's story. It starts when Geralt agrees to help the baron free his wife Anna from the Crones at the end of Family Matters. Their daughter Tamara is searching the bog too, with a band of witch hunters. What waits there depends on how Geralt dealt with the spirit in the tree during The Whispering Hillock.
Return to Crookback Bog Map Location and Quest Guide
Return to Crookback Bog map location:
- Agree to help the baron rescue Anna at the end of Family Matters.
- Meet the baron and his men in Downwarren.
- Go with the baron through the bog to the Crones' huts, staying close to him.
- Kill the two groups of drowners and water hags on the way, water hags first.
- Help the witch hunters fight the monsters at the huts.
- Talk with Tamara and the baron while the witch hunters search the buildings.
- Prepare for a fight when the howl sounds.
- Kill the fiend and the other monsters.
- If Anna has become a monster, visit Johnny at his burrow and kill the monsters outside.
- Use Witcher Senses to track Johnny to his hiding spot nearby.
- Tell the others what happened to Anna.
- Find the door to the hidden room in the Crones' house and go down into the cellar.
- Pick the doll that stands for Anna from the altar.
- Talk to the baron.
- Go to Crow's Perch to collect the payment if the baron sends Geralt there.

Choices
The choice at the Whispering Hillock decides Anna's fate. If Geralt killed the spirit, or freed it before the Crones gave him the task, Anna is found alive but out of her mind. The baron swears to take her away from Velen and search the world for someone who can heal her. Tamara goes back to the witch hunters.
If Geralt freed the spirit after the Crones gave him the task, the Crones punish Anna for the children's escape. She has been turned into a monster. Johnny explains how the curse was cast, and the answer lies among the dolls in the cellar. The doll with the flower is the right one. With it the curse lifts, but the Crones built it to kill her once broken. Anna dies with her husband and daughter beside her. Any other doll makes Anna burst into flames and die.
On this second path, Tamara returns to Oxenfurt with her spirits crushed, and the baron goes back to Crow's Perch. When Geralt arrives to collect his pay, he finds the baron hanged from the tree in the courtyard.
