Location

The Godling is a rare Relict, a small woodland spirit that looks and acts much like a child. Godlings live near human villages, in Crookback Bog in Velen, in Novigrad and in Skellige. They are friendly to people, and two of them, Johnny and Sarah, play a part in the main story.

Lore

Not long ago, the land around peasant hamlets was full of guardian spirits. Today it is almost impossible to spot a brownie, a bucca or a lutin. Godlings are always the first to go. Professor Dorregaray called this the price paid for the march of civilization, in the preface to "The World We Have Lost."

Godlings are woodland creatures, sometimes mistaken for lutins. They live in burrows and in moss-covered hollow stumps on the edges of human settlements. They look and behave like children, and like children, they love mischief. Godlings are deeply rooted in their home ground. They care for and guard the people who live near their burrows, and the animals too. They are shy by nature, so they try to do this without being seen. Godlings are drawn to joy and innocence. They love the company of children and usually show themselves only to the young.

Behaviour

Godlings are hard-working and clever. They gladly do small services for those in their care. In return they ask only for respect, and for payment in food or old, cast-off tools. Rude, ungrateful or churlish behavior offends them easily.

Godlings also treasure their peace and quiet. When a village grows too crowded, or its people forget the old ways, the godling leaves its burrow for good and walks off to places unknown.

Contracts and Quests

Quest Quest Giver Location Reward
Ladies of the Wood - Crookback Bog, Velen 750 XP
Novigrad Dreaming - Novigrad 100 XP
Contract: Skellige's Most Wanted - Fyresdal, Skellige -

Johnny, a godling of Crookback Bog, is met in the main quest Ladies of the Wood. He has lost his voice, which is trapped in a sealed bottle in a nest on a cliff. Once he gets it back, he talks nonstop. He tells what he saw of Ciri and persuades Gran to let the witcher speak to the Crones.

Sarah, a godling girl, lives in an old house in Novigrad and appears in the main quest Novigrad Dreaming. She has been "haunting" the house to scare people away, because she sees it as her home. She has also put the dreamer Corinne Tilly into a deep sleep. The house can be left to her, or she can be forced out. Either way, Corinne wakes up.

Johnny turns up again in Bald Mountain, at the Crones' sabbath. Sarah joins him there if she was forced out of the house in Novigrad. In Skellige, a godling joins a troll, a doppler and a werewolf in the contract Skellige's Most Wanted. Together they lay an ambush to punish the witcher for killing their kind. The godling never meant real harm, and she runs off once the fighting starts.
