Lore

---

A hard life awaits a child who cannot escape his parents' shadow. After the death of his father, the beloved King Bran, Svanrige became the formal head of Clan Tuirseach. The clan controls a vast territory on the isle of An Skellig.

Yet Svanrige is a quiet and mild young man. He seems firmly tied to the apron strings of his mother, Birna, who tries to control his every move. With such an overbearing guardian, it is hard to imagine him growing into a man who can rule a mighty clan on his own.

Story

---

At the feast in Kaer Trolde, bears burst into the hall and slaughter the guests. Only three claimants to the throne survive: Cerys an Craite, Hjalmar an Craite and Svanrige. The massacre happened in the an Craite stronghold, so Clan an Craite must prove it had no part in it.

If Geralt helps Cerys, they find out that Birna planned the massacre. A council of jarls tries her. For a moment it seems the sly widow will escape justice. Then Svanrige senses her lie as soon as she denies the charges, and his words seal her fate. Birna is sentenced, and disgrace falls on the once-proud name of Tuirseach.

If Geralt does not help the an Craites, Svanrige is chosen as king. Most people believe Birna arranged it, to put a puppet under her control on the throne. In The Sunstone, the young king is about to sign a humiliating treaty of surrender to Nilfgaard, as his mother wants. Instead, Svanrige shows his claws. He tears up the treaty and calls his men to attack the Nilfgaardians. The blood of the isles' old enemy wipes away any doubt about whether the new king is worthy.
