Requires Embedded Exploit

Speculation refunds RAM when a combat quickhack finishes the job. Killing with a hack returns a share of everything that was spent on that enemy. It sits in the netrunning branch of the Intelligence tree. It rewards a build that stacks hacks and lets them do the killing.

Effect

The refund is calculated from the total cost of the hacks affecting the target, so the more was invested in that enemy, the more comes back.

That makes stacking a sound strategy rather than a gamble. A netrunner can afford to pile several effects onto a single enemy, because finishing them with a hack returns part of the bill.

How to Unlock Speculation

It sits behind the Pro gate of the Intelligence tree and is bought from Embedded Exploit.

Perk Tree

Speculation is bought from Embedded Exploit in the Intelligence tree.

Buying Speculation opens the perks below.

Name Image Tier Effect
Recirculation Recirculation Pro (9) +2 RAM after neutralizing an enemy with a Smart Weapon. If the enemy is affected by quickhacks, restores additional RAM equal to 50% of their total RAM cost.

Character Builds

It suits a netrunner that kills with its hacks rather than with a gun, which is the purest reading of the tree.

Buy it at the Pro gate from Embedded Exploit. Recirculation needs it bought, and that perk covers the case where a smart weapon takes the kill instead, so a build carrying both a deck and a smart weapon ends up taking the two of them together.

Notes

Data Recycler returns the cost of hacks still waiting in a queue, so the two cover the finished and unfinished parts of the same plan.

Recirculation returns RAM when a smart weapon takes the kill instead.
