The Ash of War: Piercing Throw is an Ash of War in Elden Ring that grants the Keen affinity and the Piercing Throw skill. It comes from the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion.

Piercing Throw hurls the throwing blade with a powerful spin, sending it roughly twice as far as a normal throw and boring straight through every enemy in its path. The projectile keeps its full damage at any distance within its range and does not lose power between targets, so a line of enemies all take the same hit. It deals little stance damage but excels at picking off or softening groups from range. It suits Dexterity builds that use throwing blades as a ranged tool.

Stats

It grants the Keen affinity and a Whetblade can switch it to Standard, Heavy, Quality, Fire, Flame Art, Lightning, Sacred, Magic, Cold, Poison, Blood or Occult. The skill costs 8 FP. It fits Throwing Blade.

Skill

The skill shines in corridors and against enemies that line up, since each blade passes through all of them. It does not get past a raised guard, so shielded foes should be baited out of their block first. Locking on is advised at point blank range, as an unlocked throw can pass over small targets entirely.

"Throw armament with a powerful spin, causing it to bore through foes. When using this skill, the armament can be thrown further than normal and also pierce through enemies."

Good With

Weapons Smithscript Dagger
Affinity Keen suits the Dexterity scaling of throwing blades, while Cold or Blood adds a status effect to every blade that hits.
Talismans Smithing Talisman, Shard of Alexander
Stats Dexterity

Notes

  • Piercing Throw is already the innate skill of the Smithscript Dagger, so the Ash of War mainly serves to change its affinity.
  • Without enough FP the throw deals reduced damage and no longer pierces through enemies.
