Scadu Altus is a high plateau at the center of the Realm of Shadow. It is named after its counterpart in the realm of the Erdtree. Messmer's army holds the land and gazes toward the Scadutree in the north-east. The Shadow Keep stands at its heart. It is reached by crossing Castle Ensis from the Gravesite Plain.

Lore
Messmer the Impaler, son of Queen Marika, led a crusade against the hornsent of this land. His army burned their settlements and still occupies the plateau. Moorth sank into the earth during the war, and Furnace Golems destroyed the town of Unte. Bonny Village, below the plateau, held cruel rites that sealed shamans inside jars.
The Cathedral of Manus Metyr stands in the east. Count Ymir, a high priest of the finger-weavers, lives there. Beneath it lie the Finger Ruins of Miyr, where Metyr, Mother of Fingers waits.
Geography
Castle Ensis opens onto the Scadu Altus Site of Grace on the western edge. The Moorth Highway runs south past the Moorth Ruins, the Ruined Forge of Starfall Past and the Fort of Reprimand. A pit in the Moorth Ruins leads down to Bonny Village. The Bonny Gaol lies south of the village, and the Whipping Hut and Rabbath's Rise lie to the east. The Cathedral of Manus Metyr stands south of Rabbath's Rise.
The road north leads to the Shadow Keep and the Church of the Crusade on a hill south-west of it. A path north-east of the Moorth Ruins crosses a poison swamp to the Rauh Base. Deep beneath the keep, a coffin carries travelers down the Recluses' River. The river passes the Ruins of Unte, the Village of Flies and the Eastern Nameless Mausoleum. It ends at the Darklight Catacombs, the only way into the Abyssal Woods.
The Church District on the keep's east side leads down to the Scadutree Base. The keep's back gate leads on to Scaduview.
Bosses
The Golden Hippopotamus guards the gate of the Shadow Keep, and Messmer the Impaler waits in his dark chamber within. Black Knight Edredd holds the Fort of Reprimand, and Dryleaf Dane challenges travelers in the Moorth Ruins. Ralva the Great Red Bear roams the plateau. Curseblade Labirith, Jori, Elder Inquisitor, Rakshasa and Furnace Golems wait in the depths and gaols. Metyr, Mother of Fingers is fought beneath the cathedral.
