Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy is a legendary boss in Elden Ring.

Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy is the demigod who fed himself to a great serpent in the depths of Volcano Manor. The fight opens against the God-Devouring Serpent, then Rykard's own head emerges from the serpent's body. A special spear, the Serpent-Hunter, lies at the arena entrance and makes the fight far easier. His defeat yields Rykard's Great Rune.

Lore

The God-Devouring Serpent is a vast coiled serpent wreathed in magma. After the first phase, Rykard's own face looms out of its body, crowned and grinning, with a great sword in his serpent-grown grip. The cavern around him is piled high with corpses.

Rykard was a son of Rennala and Radagon, raised to demigod when Radagon wed Queen Marika. Under the Golden Order he served as a ruthless justiciar whose inquisitors tortured heretics. On Mt. Gelmir he found the magma hexes of a forgotten serpent religion and turned them into new sorceries.

Rykard turned to blasphemy and fed himself to the great serpent, Great Rune and all. He declared war on the Golden Order and gathered the recusants of Volcano Manor around him.

Phases

  • Phase 1: the God-Devouring Serpent bites, spits magma and poison and moves slowly in a pool of lava.
  • Phase 2: Rykard's head emerges and he fights with a sword, Rykard's Rancor and a rain of skulls.

Attacks

  • Serpent bites: quick lunging bites in phase one. Keeping distance with the Serpent-Hunter avoids most of them.
  • Magma eruptions: lava bursts across the arena. Moving away from the glowing ground avoids them.
  • Poison breath: the serpent sprays poison. Leaving the cloud avoids the buildup.
  • Sword sweeps: in phase two Rykard swings a huge sword across the floor. Running or rolling toward his side avoids it.
  • Rykard's Rancor: homing skulls that chase the target. Running around the large arena until they fade avoids them.
  • Rancor Rain: skulls fall from above across the arena. Constant movement avoids them.

Tactics

  1. Pick up the Serpent-Hunter from the corpse pile at the arena entrance before the fight starts.
  2. Equip fire-resistant armor or talismans, because the arena and his attacks burn.
  3. Summon a long-range spirit ash.
  4. Use the Serpent-Hunter's charged attacks to strike from a safe distance.
  5. Keep running in phase two to outlast Rykard's Rancor and the skull rain.
  6. Use frost, because Rykard is weak to frostbite.
