Building Shelter is an early Flame quest that teaches how to build a home and why it matters. Resting in a warm, comfortable shelter makes the player Rested, which raises stamina and stamina regeneration for a while. The quest walks through the Workbench, the first building blocks, the Construction Hammer and the Fireplace.
Walkthrough
The quest step by step:
- Finish Find The Sleeping Survivor to receive the quest from the Flame.
- Craft a Workbench from the Manual Crafting tab and place it.
- At the Workbench, craft Rough Wood Blocks or Rough Stone Blocks.
- Craft a Construction Hammer, either by hand or at the Workbench.
- Put the hammer in the action bar, enter building mode, pick a blueprint and a block, and build walls around the Flame Altar. Roofs need roof blocks.
- Craft a Fireplace and place it inside. Shelter, warmth and comfort together make the player Rested.
Sitting or lying down also counts as shelter for resting. Furniture and decoration raise comfort, which makes the Rested bonus last longer.
Prerequisites
This quest opens after Find The Sleeping Survivor, a quest from the Flame. That quest leads through the Shroud to the Ancient Vault - Blacksmith, a short way north of the Cinder Vault. Scavengers hold the camp around the vault. Inside, the Blacksmith sleeps in a Cinder Vessel, and waking him unlocks the Summoning Staff. The staff places him in the base. Once he is there, the Flame teaches how to build a shelter, so the player can become Rested between trips.
