Quests

Claim A Spot For Your Base starts when the Flame speaks inside the vault. It asks for a Flame Altar in the wilds to reclaim the land. A site in the plains is marked on the map, but any spot above the Shroud will do. On the way, a cave on the left holds a torch. A side cave holds Explosive Powder Balls that blow open a rubble wall. Further down, a Fell Critter and a Fell Footsoldier guard the path to the first Return Beacon. The quest ends with a talk with the Flame at the new altar.

Lore Pages

"On the Flame and Its Murmurs" lies on a bench beside a corpse, just outside the vault. It is the first page of Balthazar's notes on the Flame. He writes that the Flame guards the knowledge of the Ancients in its burning core. He can stare into the fire for hours, but it never speaks to him. It only talks to those born from the Flame, and he finds that a shame.

About Cinder Vault

The Cinder Vault is a protected chamber where Flameborn sleep in Cinder Vessels until they are released into Embervale. The vessels were the work of Balthazar, the Alchemist. His notes tell how his first test failed and the flame inside charred a rat. A second rat, Igni, slept, could be woken again and did not decay. Balthazar saw the vessels as the only chance to survive the Shroud. The vault keeps its sleepers untouched by time until the Flame rouses them.

Notes

Balthazar's last note says the first human to enter a Cinder Vessel would be the true prototype. The Blacksmith volunteered for that role. He had to sleep in the vessel until he was roused again, or risk slipping into eternity. Other craftspeople sleep in Cinder Vessels in the Ancient Vaults across Embervale. The Flame's quest Find The Sleeping Survivor wakes the Blacksmith from his vessel in the Ancient Vault - Blacksmith.
