Ash Rune is an Expert Alteration spell from the Dragonborn add-on. The caster places a rune on the ground or a wall, and it explodes when an enemy comes near. Everyone caught in the blast is sealed in hardened ash for 30 seconds. Trapped enemies cannot be harmed, so the rune is best used to slow a group down or to make an escape.
