How It Plays
The Ring of Namira is the cannibal's ring. It adds a large pool of Stamina, which helps any warrior or archer. Its true power is darker. The wearer can feed on the corpses of slain people. Each meal grants extra Health and faster Health regeneration for a few minutes.
The feeding bonus lasts even after the ring is taken off. A character can wear the ring, feed and then swap back to another ring. The blessing stays for its full duration. This makes the Ring of Namira useful even for a character who prefers a different ring in combat.
The feeding works only on corpses of the playable races. Bandits, Forsworn, Thalmor soldiers and necromancers all count. After a fight with a group of bandits, a quick meal heals the wearer and boosts Health for the next room.
Feeding is a crime if anyone sees it. A witnessed meal counts as an assault, and a guard who sees it may attack. Guards may also comment that the wearer's breath is foul and ask what they have been eating. Feed only in the depths of a dungeon, away from witnesses.
Perks and Builds
The Stamina bonus suits any build that uses power attacks, shield bashes or bows. A larger pool means more power attacks before the bar runs dry. A two-handed warrior or a dual wielder gains the most.
The feeding bonus suits a melee character who takes a lot of damage. Extra Health means more room for error. Faster regeneration helps between fights, when potions are better saved.
The ring fits a dark character in spirit. Necromancers, Dark Brotherhood assassins and Daedra worshippers can feed on their victims. A werewolf can also feed in beast form, but one corpse serves only one of the two kinds of feeding.
With the Survival Mode option of the Anniversary Edition, the ring gains another use. Feeding fills hunger as well. A character in survival can live off the dead instead of carrying food.
Compared with Other Rings
Fortify Stamina rings made at an arcane enchanter can match the Stamina bonus. The Ring of Namira adds the feeding power on top, in one slot.
The Ring of Hircine serves werewolves, and the Ring of the Beast from the Dawnguard DLC serves Vampire Lords. The Ring of Namira serves a character who stays in human form and still wants a taste of the monstrous.
Quest Background
The Taste of Death begins in Markarth. The Hall of the Dead is closed, and rumors say something is wrong inside. Brother Verulus, the priest of Arkay, asks for help. Something has been eating the dead.
Inside the hall waits Eola, a Breton woman. She speaks of the Lady of Decay, Namira, and of a safe haven for those who share her tastes. Reporting her to Verulus ends the quest without the ring. Listening to her leads to Reachcliff Cave.
Reachcliff Cave holds an old shrine to Namira, now overrun by draugr. Eola can join as a follower for the fight. She summons a Flame Atronach and raises the fallen draugr. Once the cave is clear, she asks for a fresh kill for the initiation feast. The chosen victim is Brother Verulus, a priest filled with the taste of the easy life.
Eola sends the hero to lure Verulus to the shrine. The coven gathers around him at the altar. The hero must kill the priest and take the first bite. Namira then speaks, accepts the new member and grants the ring.
Lore
Namira is the Daedric Prince of the ancient darkness, of spirits and of all things considered repulsive. Her worshippers embrace what others shun. Cannibalism is a form of devotion in her cults.
The Ring of Namira has appeared in earlier games of the series. In Skyrim, it carries the darkest gift of any ring.
Gameplay Tips
- Feeding on a body in front of a guard counts as a crime.
- Only one ring can be worn at a time.
