The portal is how a Viking stops walking. Give two portals the same tag, up to ten characters and case sensitive, and stepping into one puts you at the other, however far away it is. A blank tag pairs with any other blank tag, which is the usual way to run a spare.
How to Build It
You build it at a workbench once you have surtling cores from a burial chamber:
- 20 Fine wood
- 2 Surtling cores
- 10 Greydwarf eyes
What Cannot Go Through
Every metal is blocked, along with a short list of heavy things: copper, tin, bronze, iron, silver, black metal, flametal, their ores and scrap, dragon eggs, mechanical springs, charred cogwheels, dvergr extractors, the iron pit and Hildir's three chests.
Step in carrying one of those and you get the refusal message instead of a trip. The answer is the portal stone: it is built from Ashlands materials and moves everything.
Notes
- Tags are case sensitive, so `Mine` and `mine` are two separate networks.
- When three or more portals share one tag, they chain in pairs in the order they were built.
- Portals work over any distance and cost nothing to use.
- World modifiers can switch portals off entirely, or make everything portable.
