A Surtling Core never stops radiating heat, which is why everything in Valheim that burns or smelts is built around one. Cores rest in the braziers of the Burial Chambers beneath the Black Forest, and they drop from the Surtlings that climb out of fire geysers in the Swamp.

How to Get It

Burial Chambers need no key and no tool, only a torch and the nerve to walk past Skeletons and Ghosts in the dark. Inside, you simply lift the cores from the stone pedestals. The alternative is the Swamp, where Surtlings spawn endlessly at fire geysers. They are creatures of flame and die readily in standing water, so a moat or a bow from a rooftop does the work. Destroyed Dvergr Lanterns in the Mistlands give up cores as well, and you can dismantle captured Bonfires in Fuling villages for theirs. Cores can go through portals, which is lucky, since the first thing most players spend them on is a portal.
