You cut Finewood from the Birch and Oak trees standing in the open woodland of the Meadows, and each tree drops normal Wood alongside it. A Stone Axe just bounces off Birch bark, so you need bronze before you can farm it.

How to Get It

Fell a Birch or an Oak with a Bronze Axe or better. Stone and Flint Axes will not mark them at all, so Finewood comes after Eikthyr, an Antler Pickaxe and your first run of copper and tin. Birch is scattered through the Meadows and grows thickly across the Plains, while Oak is a Meadows tree and drops far more per trunk. If you are still on stone tools, there are two ways around it. Wrecked ships on Black Forest shores break apart into Finewood with any axe, and a Troll chasing you through a birch stand will fell the trees for you. Finewood travels through portals, so a distant logging trip only costs you the walk out.
