The Arachas is a large Insectoid armed with strong pincers and deadly venom. People and farm animals make up a large part of its diet. That makes Arachas contracts an important way for witchers to earn coin.
Lore
An old Elven proverb gives fair warning: "Let sleeping arachasae lie." Arachasae once lived only in the far south. Over many decades they spread north and got used to colder lands. They found damp woodlands and swamps the most welcoming. There they sleep through the winter under blankets of mud and moss.
The Arachas carries a covering of hollow tree trunks on its back. These hide its soft, sack-like belly. Its weapons are crushing pincers, a mouth full of razor-sharp teeth and glands packed with deadly venom.
Behaviour
Arachasae make their homes in caves and forests. An Arachas that stands still often looks like part of the forest undergrowth. It uses this to ambush anything that comes too close.
Weaknesses
Coat the silver sword with Insectoid Oil. Drink Golden Oriole before the fight, because the venom is the main danger.
An Arachas usually opens a fight by spitting venom. Then it reaches out with long, grasping feelers to grab its prey. The feelers drag the victim toward its pincers, so stay out of their reach.
