Elementa

Elementa

Elementa are beings made of magic. They include Golems and Gargoyles brought to life by spells, elementals of earth, fire and ice, the air spirit called the Djinn, and the Hounds of the Wild Hunt. Most obey the will of the mage who made them. Witchers fight them with the silver sword coated in Elementa Oil. Dimeritium Bombs work against every one of them.

Each kind is made for a purpose. A Golem is mindless matter woken by a spell. It is a tireless servant or guard that follows its creator's orders without question. Gargoyles are stone statues brought to life to guard the laboratories and hideouts of mages. Fire Elementals are made in complicated rituals for destruction alone. Earth Elementals are mud, clay and rock dust held together with water. Ice Elementals are frozen water, and their orders usually come down to a single word: kill.

The Djinn is a powerful air spirit. It is the power of air given a mind of its own and a usually nasty character. Legend says it grants wishes, but very unwillingly. The Hounds of the Wild Hunt howl at the riders' heels and attack whatever crosses their path. Igni burns them.

Dimeritium shrapnel disrupts the spell that gives an elemental life, so these bombs are the core of any fight. Earth Elementals, Ice Elementals and Golems shrug off poison and fire. Fire spells make a Fire Elemental stronger, so Igni is wasted on it. Quen absorbs their heaviest blows. Against fists that crush granite, a roll works better than a parry.
