Draconids

Draconids

Draconids are the smaller relatives of dragons: Wyverns, Forktails, Basilisks, Cockatrices and Slyzards. People often mistake Wyverns, Forktails and Slyzards for true dragons. They are much smaller, but still extremely dangerous. Witchers hunt them with the silver sword coated in Draconid Oil. Aard and Grapeshot bring them down out of the sky.

Many Draconids clash with people over livestock. Forktails hunt big game such as cattle and pigs, and sometimes even humans. The Shrieker snatched cows and goats around Crow's Perch. People hunt Draconids in return. Basilisk leather is prized for fashionable shoes and handbags, and the hunters it attracts have cut Basilisk numbers sharply.

Basilisks and Cockatrices love dark places such as caves, cellars, ruins and sewers. People claim a Cockatrice can kill with its gaze like a Basilisk. That is nonsense: the real danger is its beak and whipping tail. Wyverns nest in Velen and Forktails in Skellige. Slyzards live in Toussaint and can roast a victim with fiery breath. The Royal Wyvern is a bigger, deadlier breed. The Dragon of Fyresdal was a Forktail that the villagers mistook for a true dragon.

Most Draconids fight both from the air and on the ground. They dive at their prey and lash out with deadly tails. Golden Oriole gives resistance to the venom of Basilisks, Wyverns and Forktails. Quen is the Sign to raise against a Slyzard.
