Cursed Ones

Cursed Ones are creatures created by a curse, very often from a person. A Werewolf is a man who takes on a beast's form. A Berserker of Skellige turns into a bear in battle rage. The Toad Prince was a man changed into a monstrous toad. Witchers fight Cursed Ones with the silver sword coated in Cursed Oil.

The victim cannot control the change. A Werewolf holds both a man and a wolf inside it. It has the wolf's hunger for raw flesh and the man's cruel intelligence. Once human again, it remembers nothing of what the beast did. Werewolves haunt Velen and Skellige by night, above all under a full moon. The Ulfhedinn is a stronger breed found in Skellige. A Berserker loses all sense of self once changed, and it must satisfy its bloodlust before it can turn back.

Other Cursed Ones come from death and spilled blood. The Botchling is born from an unwanted baby thrown away without a proper burial. It drains the strength of pregnant women while they sleep. Its curse can be lifted by turning it into a Lubberkin, a guardian spirit of the home. The Archespore of Toussaint is a huge, bloodthirsty flower. It is said to grow from soil fed by the blood of the dying.

Werewolves heal very fast, so a slow fight favors the beast. Igni, Moon Dust and Devil's Puffball work well against them. Axii works against the Botchling, and Yrden against The Toad Prince.
