The Arachnomorph is a large spider-like Insectoid. It appeared in the world after the Conjunction of the Spheres and is a distant cousin of the common spider. Arachnomorphs live in deep, dark caves and lonely, waterlogged swamps.
Lore
An old proverb from Ofier says that the spider shall never lie down with the fly. The same could be said of arachnomorphs and everything that cannot run from them. That covers nearly every creature in the world.
Anyone who meets an arachnomorph should hope their affairs are in order, because their life is about to end. Not even the fastest man alive can outrun one. Only a few witchers can hope to kill one.
The Arachnomorph Colossus is even worse. This more aggressive and dangerous kind can eat a whole ox in seconds.
Behaviour
Because they keep to such remote places, farmers and woodcutters have little reason to fear them in their daily work.
Weaknesses
Coat the silver sword with Insectoid Oil. Axii stops an arachnomorph for a moment, so keep it ready.
Arachnomorphs are extremely fast and surprisingly clever. In a group, the one under attack backs away out of reach. Meanwhile the others sneak up from behind. They also spit sticky webbing, even while backing off. A target caught in the web is stuck in place, and the next spider strikes at once.
Do not chase the spider that runs away. Stay on the move instead. Turn on the ones that close in from behind and hit them hard when they come near.
