In the Eternal Fire's Shadow is a secondary quest in Velen. Near the Devil's Pit, a young priest of the Eternal Fire is praying for help. He asks Geralt to clear an old mine of deserters and of a specter that is said to spread plague. Inside, Geralt follows the trail of Reinald, a forgotten witcher of the Wolf School.
In the Eternal Fire's Shadow Map Location and Quest Guide
In the Eternal Fire's Shadow map location:
- Talk to the priest of the Eternal Fire next to the Devil's Pit signpost.
- Accept the job and take the key to the mine.
- Defeat the bandits still lurking in the pit.
- Head to the lowest level of the camp and open the gate to the mine.
- Read Reinald's notes and letters along the way.
- Use Witcher Senses to spot the Wolf School insignias that mark the path.
- Ignore the voice that urges a turn to the right, and take the marked path straight ahead.
- Find the Forgotten Priest's Testament in the laboratory room.
- Defeat the plague victims in the large cavern.
- Read the Note From Father Edgar and break the wall on the south side with Aard.
- Read the red miasmal bestiary entry and prepare Reinald's Philter.
- Follow the path to the Fifth Letter From Reinald, then save the game.
- Free Reinald from the salt with Aard.
- Decide whether to trust Reinald with the philter.
- Defeat possessed Reinald, then defeat the red miasmal.
- Decide whether to bring the priest to Reinald's spirit.

Choices
Before the fight, Reinald asks for the philter. Trusting him spills it, and nobody drinks it. Keeping it lets Geralt drink it himself.
After the fight, Reinald's spirit asks Geralt to bring the priest to him. Geralt can refuse. In that case he salts and burns Reinald's body so the ghost cannot turn into a wraith.
If Geralt brings the priest, the talk decides his fate. Siding with Reinald's hatred of the Church means Reinald kills the boy. Saying "Boy's innocent," then "Don't need a church to do good, priest," lets Reinald find peace. The priest lives and turns the Devil's Pit into a shelter for refugees, with a new merchant at the entrance.
