The Wraith from the Painting is a Specter, the restless spirit of Iris von Everec. It haunts the abandoned von Everec Estate. It is met in the Hearts of Stone expansion, in the main quest Scenes From a Marriage.

Lore

Iris von Everec was the wife of Olgierd von Everec. After her tragic death, her spirit became bound to a painting. Olgierd's old house is haunted by her ghost. More exactly, it is haunted by deadly echoes of her sleeping spirit.

A wraith is often tied to an object it clung to in life, or to a place, such as the spot where it died. In both cases the cause is the same: a strong emotional tie that feeds the wraith's strength. Iris's spirit lingers in a painted world, a twisted copy of the estate. There she relives moments of her life and of her marriage as it fell apart.

The wraith is not evil at heart. Grief and despair drive it, and that makes it both dangerous and sad to face.

Behaviour

The wraith rules the furniture of the house, and above all its paintings. It moves freely between them. It enters one canvas and steps out of another. At first it tries to frighten intruders into giving up their search. When that fails, it attacks them directly.

Weaknesses

Coat the silver sword with Specter Oil. Lay Yrden in the hallway, because the trap holds the wraith in place and opens a window for several blows.

The wraith fights with rage and strikes fast. Its blows leave little time to breathe, let alone attack. Focus on dodging and parrying, and strike only now and then, at exactly the right moment. A flurry of attacks is always punished with a deadly counterattack.

The paintings are the real danger. The wraith has a bond with them, and it keeps regaining lost health until that bond is cut. When it heads for a painting, a glowing green cloud appears in front of that canvas. Reach the painting first and destroy it.

The Wraith from the Painting Map Location and Quest Guide

Go to the von Everec Estate and talk to the thief at the gap in the wall.
Search for the thief's partner and follow the tracks into the back garden.
Defeat the Caretaker in the back garden.
Enter the manor and search for Iris von Everec on the upper floor.
Kill the Wraith from the Painting, destroying each painting it tries to heal from.
Examine the remains on the bed in the bedroom on the upper floor.
Bury Iris near the painting easel and summon her spirit.

The Wraith from the Painting appears in Scenes From a Marriage, a Hearts of Stone main quest. Olgierd von Everec sets his third and final task: bring back the violet rose he gave his wife the last time he saw her. The search leads to the von Everec Estate.

A frightened thief waits at a gap in the estate wall, looking for his missing partner. The trail leads to the back garden and to the Caretaker, a monster that must be killed. After that fight, the search for Iris moves to the upper floor of the manor. The wraith attacks there, in the corridors near her bedroom.

Past the wraith, Iris's remains lie on the bed. Burying her near the painting easel in the garden lets her spirit be summoned. The quest then moves into her painted world, where her lost memories have to be restored. At the end waits Ethereal, the embodiment of her greatest fear.
