To Bait a Forktail... is one of the main quests at Kaer Morhen inside Ugly Baby. Yennefer needs parts of a forktail, a dangerous beast, to lift Uma's curse. She sends Geralt to help Eskel hunt one. First Geralt has to find Eskel, who has gone ahead with a goat as bait. It is the first time in years that the two witchers meet.
To Bait a Forktail... Map Location and Quest Guide
To Bait a Forktail... map location:
- Start at the Kaer Morhen fast travel point and find horse tracks with Witcher Senses.
- Follow the tracks to Eskel's horse, Scorpion.
- Search the area around the horse, and take the draconid oil from the dish if needed.
- Follow Eskel's tracks and the goat's tracks until they vanish on the rocks.
- Follow the goat's smell with Witcher Senses.
- Find Eskel and talk to him.
- Fight the forktail with Eskel.
- Follow the forktail's blood trail to its cave when it flees.
- Kill the forktail inside the cave.
- Race Eskel back to Kaer Morhen, or decline and ride back.

Choices
Eskel proposes a horse race back to the keep. The race is optional. Winning it earns a prize from Eskel: a pair of Mountain Folk Boots and the Hanged Man's Venom manuscript page. Geralt can also turn the prize down and ask Eskel to buy him a drink instead.
