Eskel is a witcher of the School of the Wolf and a close friend of Geralt. The two grew up together at Kaer Morhen and are as close as brothers. Geralt meets him at Kaer Morhen, where Eskel helps prepare the keep for the battle against the Wild Hunt.

Lore

Of all the witchers, Eskel and Geralt have the most in common. They first met as two boys of the same age, swinging wooden swords at Kaer Morhen. They went through the same ordeals together. These were the first selection, the deadly Changes, the Trial of the Grasses and training on the Gauntlet, the witchers' brutal obstacle course. They were also punished together for more than one childish prank. Once they caught a large forest bumblebee and tied it to a jug, and Vesemir caught them laughing at it.

As adults they walked the Path apart. Still, they met again at Kaer Morhen nearly every winter, to wait out the cold, drink to their successes and remember fallen friends. Eskel never became as famous as Geralt, but he matches the White Wolf in experience. He does his contracts with care and skill. Death nearly took him on many hunts. Yet the ugly scar on his face came from no monster. It came from the blade of Deidre Ademeyn, his own unpredictable Unexpected Child. This may be why Eskel dislikes Yennefer, though he does not let it spoil his friendship with Geralt.

Story

Eskel is at Kaer Morhen when Geralt arrives with Uma. Yennefer needs parts from a forktail to lift Uma's curse, and she sends Geralt to help Eskel hunt one. Geralt follows Eskel's tracks and joins him. The two witchers lure the forktail in, wound it, chase it as it flees and finish it off in its lair. The hunt also gives them time to catch up, since they have not seen each other in years.

When the Wild Hunt attacks Kaer Morhen, Eskel takes an active part in the defense. He stands bravely against overwhelming odds and fights Caranthir, one of the Hunt's generals. Ciri comes to his aid in that fight. After Vesemir's death, Eskel takes over the task of watching over the witchers' keep.

Geralt is like a brother to Eskel. Vesemir was their teacher, and Lambert is another witcher of their school. Eskel dislikes Yennefer but stays friends with Geralt regardless.
