Chipware Connoisseur lets V choose what an implant gains when it is upgraded. Instead of accepting whatever modifier the upgrade offers, there is a choice of options, and better cyberware offers more of them. It sits in the cyberware branch of the Technical Ability tree. Builds that upgrade their chrome rather than replacing it get the most from it.
Effect
Upgrading cyberware normally hands over a modifier at random, which is how a build ends up with resistances it did not want on an implant it relies on.
A choice removes that waste. Every upgrade can be pointed at the stat the build is actually built around, and on higher quality cyberware the choice widens further.
How to Unlock Chipware Connoisseur
It sits behind the Pro gate of the Technical Ability tree. Driver Update is bought first, since that is the perk which adds the modifiers this one selects.
Perk Tree
Chipware Connoisseur is bought from Driver Update in the Technical Ability tree.
| Name | Image | Tier | Effect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Driver Update | Pro (9) | All cyberware gain an additional stat modifier. |
Character Builds
The build is a cyberware build that upgrades its implants at a ripperdoc rather than replacing them, which is the cheaper way to reach high quality chrome.
Buy it at the Pro gate once Driver Update is in place, since it selects the modifiers that perk adds. Lucky Day in the same branch raises the components an upgrade consumes, so a build doing a lot of upgrading usually takes both.
Notes
Ripperdocs are where cyberware is installed and upgraded, so the choice this perk offers appears in their clinics.
All Things Cyber raises the value of whichever modifier is chosen.
