Ripperdocs

Ripperdocs are the street surgeons of Night City. They sell cyberware, fit it into the body and keep it running. Every district has at least one clinic, and each clinic keeps its own stock.

What a Ripperdoc Does

A ripperdoc is part surgeon, part techie and part tattoo artist. Lucky people visit one to have the latest implant fitted because they can afford it. Unlucky people are carried in by friends in pieces, in the hope that the ripperdoc can put them back together.

Most people have a favourite clinic and a trusted ripperdoc who knows their body better than they do. Hunting for the cheapest deal is a bad idea, above all in Little China or out past Rancho Coronado. There, a cheap ripperdoc may fit a second hand implant with a nasty virus thrown in for free.

Corporate Ripperdocs

Corporate staff do not need to shop around, because their employers have their own ripperdocs. The service is free, the clinics smell like hospital wards and the staff smile like braindance stars. The only catch is that the company then has access to the patient's brain.

Notable Ripperdocs

Viktor Vektor in Little China is the first ripperdoc V meets and a friend for the whole story. Fingers on Jig-Jig Street is the most hated, for his part in the fate of Evelyn Parker. Charles Bucks in Kabuki hides a dark secret in his basement, and Eron Acedo works out of a bathroom under the stadium in Dogtown.
