Sparring Partner is a Thievery gig from Dakota Smith in the Badlands. A young boxer called Red Joe has the talent to turn pro, but there are no coaches in the Badlands. Then word comes that a next generation sparring robot, still working, has landed in the scrapyard of the Warbler Lake Hazardous Waste Facility. Dakota wants its software before the robot gets recycled, and warns V about the man who runs the landfill.
Story
Red Joe
Dakota tells the story in the journal. There is a kid folks call Joe, Red Joe. He has talent, knows his hooks and jabs, and could knock the teeth out of a horse. He has what it takes to go pro. The problem is that coaches are hard to find in the Badlands. But word is that a next generation sparring robot has turned up in a scrapyard out there, still working. That is city folk all over: the moment a piece of tech glitches, it goes in the trash, software and all. V is to find the robot and download its software before it is turned into metal straws or whatever city people like. And one more thing: watch out for the man who runs the landfill. He is a real piece of work.
The Junkyard
The junk dealer's trailer stands at the front of the yard. Beyond it lies a restricted area with a few guards, and a van with the robot in the back.
