Dakota Smith is the fixer of the Badlands and a member of the Pomo people of Northern California. At first glance she seems a harmless desert hermit, and it is fair to say she lost touch with reality somewhat after the Unification War: in her free time she reads secret messages in smoke. Set that aside, and she is a sharp fixer with a mind for business. She works from her garage in Rocky Ridge.
Biography
The Static
Dakota is a nomad, but she has settled in one place, which nomads call being a static. The word is not a compliment, but she says statics are needed, because they look after those who come and go, and she does not deny that she profits from it. She claims to be the eldest daughter of the Pomo and the oldest fixer of the Badlands, though only her word supports it. Some call her the Mad Coyote.
The Badlands
Dakota sees the Badlands not as an empty desert but as a living web of nomads, Raffen Shiv, corporations and drifters, where removing one part would bring the rest down. Her gigs send V across the desert. In one of them she has to rescue the techie Iris Tanner, whom she has long wanted to work with. She does not gloat but welcomes Iris as a sister. She also helps the Aldecaldos when they prepare to leave the area.

Personality
Dakota is calm, mystical and shrewd. She speaks in riddles and talks about signs and spirits, but she never loses track of the money. She disapproves of nomads who abandon their families and will stand up to enemies to protect the people of the desert.
Relationships
The Aldecaldos are her allies. Iris Tanner is the techie she wants as a partner. Big Pete and others in the Badlands are among her clients and problems.
Jobs
Dakota hands out the gigs of the Badlands, from Flying Drugs and Big Pete's Got Big Problems to Goodbye, Night City. She also helps the Aldecaldos in We Gotta Live Together.
