The Darkwood beam 2m is two metres of tar-blackened timber, the short horizontal piece of the darkwood set in the Supports tab, made from wood sealed with tar. Lay it flat under floorboards or across an opening and it carries weight sideways, the one job an upright pole cannot do.

How to Build It

Each beam costs two wood and one tar, and you build and repair it within range of a workbench. The tar is what you are paying for: rain does not damage darkwood, so these beams can stay exposed on a porch or a bridge where plain wood would slowly rot away.
