The Plains look like the friendliest place you have seen since the Meadows, with open golden grass, a clear sky and the strongest wind in the game. Do not be fooled: they are the most lethal open biome in Valheim. One deathsquito sting deals 90 damage, fulings roam in packs after dark, and a lox herd will walk straight through you.
Locations
The Plains spawn from 2,900 m out to 8,000 m. Many of the biome's structures need a zone that is entirely Plains, which is why villages and altars sit out in the open rather than on a border.
| Location | Image | What's Inside |
|---|---|---|
| Fuling Village | Huts around bonfires, with planted barley and flax, chests, and a fuling totem on the altar. | |
| Fuling Outpost | A stone tower behind stakes, packed with fulings and usually a totem. | |
| Stonehenge | Stacked boulders with a centre chest and a 40% chance of a Yagluth vegvisir. | |
| Sealed Tower | Hildir's third dungeon. The only way in is the roof; Zil and Thungr hold the bronze chest at the top. | |
| Tar Pit | A black pool guarded by growths. Sixty to a hundred tar per pit, and anything dropped in it is gone until you drain it. | |
| Yagluth's Altar | Five fuling totems summon him. |
Boss
To summon Yagluth you need 5 fuling totems, which you find beside village bonfires and inside outposts. The boss has 10,000 health and brings his own dark weather, so you cannot use the wet effect as fire resistance. He attacks with beams, meteors and a fire nova.
He drops torn spirits, which build the wisp fountain. That is the start of the chain that lets you see through the Mistlands mist. His power gives +25 farming skill and +10% damage of every type, and it halves lightning damage.

Hazards
- A deathsquito deals 90 damage per sting, has 10 health, and will cross open water to reach your boat.
- After dark the fuling spawn cap rises from two to five. They arrive in groups, backed by 800-health berserkers and by shamans who shield them.
- A lox has 1,000 health and does not need to see you coming.
- Tar halves your movement speed and doubles the fire damage you take. Anything you drop in a tar pit stays there until you drain it.
- Fog rolls in around dawn and dusk and cuts your sight to about 100 m.
Lore
The Plains carry the densest run of lore in the game. The fulings once built towers and cities to rival those of men, until Odin trampled their armies. Only Yagluth would not break, so Odin tore his body in half and cast the remains here, where he bled into the earth and crumbled to dust. The shamans still draw their crooked magic from him.
Harald's stone is the best bit of progression writing in Valheim. It tells of an eye lost to Eikthyr, a shield hand to the Old Man of the Forest and a leg to the Mother Drake, ending with "now my last battle must be at hand".
Notes
- Barley and flax grow only here. You plant them straight from the crop, with no seed step, and each one returns two for one.
- Windmills work best in the Plains because the biome has the highest minimum wind in the game. Fog cuts their output hard.
- Black metal and black metal scrap cannot go through a wood portal.
- You can tame lox with barley, flax or cloudberries.
- Your own windmill blades hit for 20 every two seconds. That is useful against deathsquitos, and a problem for you.
