Ships

Longship

Ships carry a Viking off the starting island, and each hull is a tier of the game in itself. You put a ship together with the hammer in shallow water, with a workbench in range. The bench only has to be nearby, since it is not a station you craft at. You repair the ship with the hammer too, and a serpent or a bad landing off a wave can sink it.

Why It Matters

Ore cannot go through a portal until you have the portal stone, and that is an Ashlands recipe. For most of the game the boat is your supply line: copper from the Black Forest, iron from the Swamp and silver from the Mountain all come home in a hull.

Wind decides your speed. A crosswind is within a few per cent of a tailwind, and only a headwind really costs you. That is why Moder's power, which keeps the wind behind you while you steer, is the sailing power.

Notes

  • A destroyed boat drops its cargo in a floating crate, while the build materials sink.
  • Boats take damage from a hard landing off a wave, and 20 a second while capsized. A karve rolls easily, a longship rarely.
  • Every hull is weak to fire and resists pierce and frost.
  • The Drakkar is the only hull that survives the boiling water around the Ashlands.
