Crafting Stations

Forge

Crafting stations are the benches, forges, furnaces and tables that unlock every recipe in Valheim. Each one gates a tier of gear and materials. You cannot make Bronze without a Forge or process iron without upgrading that forge, and the later biomes each add their own specialised stations.

Most stations need a roof and at least 70 % cover before they will craft or repair. For building and placing pieces, the station only has to be in range.

Main Stations and What They Unlock

Station Upgrade Parts

Most stations accept upgrade pieces placed within a couple of metres (anvil, bellows, tool rack, cooler and so on). Each upgrade raises the station's level by one. Recipes check that level, so higher gear simply will not appear until you upgrade the station.

Notes

  • A station needs a roof and 70% cover to craft or repair, but placing building pieces only needs the station in range.
  • Repairing is free, and any station that could have crafted an item can also repair it.
  • Station upgrades only count when they are built close to their station.
  • A Workbench stops enemies from spawning around it, which is why bases are usually ringed with them.
  • Raids can destroy stations, so keep the important ones inside walls or under solid roofs.
  • Smelters, Charcoal Kilns, Blast Furnaces and similar processing stations follow the same roof rules, but they do not take the upgrades of the main crafting stations.
