A Tar Pit is a pool of tar in the Plains where you gather Tar. Growths guard it.
Where to Find It
Tar Pits need a zone that is entirely Plains, on flat ground with at most 1.5 metres of height difference. Three layouts sit between 5 and 60 metres of altitude, at least 128 metres apart, and three more sit at 3 metres of altitude or higher. A world holds up to 386 across the six layouts, and any of them can spawn randomly damaged.
What's Inside
Tar nodes lie in and around the pit. Small nodes give 4 Tar and big nodes at the bottom of the pit give 15, for 69 to 108 Tar per pit. You can harvest the nodes by hand once the pit is drained far enough, which you do by digging a trench from the pit to lower ground. Bones around the pit break into Bone Fragments.
Creatures
| Creature | Image | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Growth | 2 respawn every hour, even after the pit is drained, plus up to 7 more at 50% each. Spawns at 0 stars. |
Loot
| Container | Item | Image | Amount | Chance |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Big Tar Node (3 to 4 per pit) | Tar | 15 | 100% | |
| Small Tar Node (6 to 12 per pit) | Tar | 4 | 100% |
Notes
- Swimming in a tar pit gives you the Tarred debuff and slows you down.
- Items dropped into the tar stay there until the pit is drained, and items stuck in it stay in the world indefinitely.
- Growths belong to the undead faction and are hostile to most other creatures in the Plains.
