Every thread of padded armour begins as Flax, grown in the tilled patches between the huts of a Fuling Village out in the Plains.
Farming
- When you enter a Fuling Village, check around the huts for a small patch of cultivated land. That is where you find 15-20 planted Flax ready to harvest, at 2 Flax each. These patches more often hold Barley, though, so you may need to search several villages.
- You can grow Flax by replanting it with a Cultivator. It can be planted on any cultivated ground, but it only grows in the Plains biome.
- It takes between 4000s and 5000s to fully grow, which is between 66m40s and 83m20s, or about 2.22-2.78 in-game days.
- Planting and growing a single Flax with the Cultivator gives you 2 Flax.
There is only one plant here, and the harvest is the seed: put part of it back in the ground and mill or spin the rest. Neither will grow outside the Plains.

How to Get It
Fully grown Flax is pulled up by hand with no tool, so the harvest itself is easy. The neighbours are the problem: villages come with Shamans and Berserkers, and a raid usually starts before you pick the last row. Carry some home to replant, but Flax only grows in the Plains no matter where you till, so the farm has to sit inside the biome behind a wall of your own. Planting needs a Cultivator, and each crop takes over an hour to ripen.
Notes
- Fully grown Flax is harvested when hit by weapons. AoE attacks, such as those of the Stagbreaker, the Iron Sledge or the Atgeir secondary attack, harvest a field very quickly. No Flax is lost, but these methods give no experience toward the Farming skill and never trigger the chance of extra drops. A Scythe or harvesting by hand can therefore drop more.
- Flax is rarer than Barley, so replant some somewhere safe as soon as you find it.
